Structural Integrity vs. Sprinkles

Our princess Ella will be 4 tomorrow. We had a party for a friend Friday, so I decided to make Ella's cake a little early and "pretend" the party was for her as well. I was inspired by a cake that Nikki recently made for her little girl, and though I am no cake decorator I thought I might be able to pull it off. Turns out, not so much. But I'd like to think that what the cake lacked in structural integrity it more than made up for in sprinkles. And for what it's worth, the girls think I'm "the best cake decorator in the world!"

This is my Settlers of Catan cake......proof that both my cake decorating AND geometry skills need improvement.

I have to admit that we(Randy always helps) kind of cheat on the cake decorating. I look on the Family Fun website for cakes and let the kids pick which one they like. They have tons of super cute ones.

I am so impressed...this is so not my thing...in fact, for my son's first birthday I went out and bought a cake at the last minute...not even good ones to choose from because we waited so long...not proud of this but like I said...NOT MY THING (however, I did cook a huge feast for the guests...which was a big hit). Your daughter will always remember her castle cake!

Wow. I thought I had an obsession with Settlers, but to decorate a cake in Settlers fashion, not even I have gone that far. Oh well, I am blue, roll the dice.

P.S. Were they edible? Because that is all that matters…those new wedding cakes look wonderful, with their smooth crisps edges, but frosting tastes just awful.
